Open Source AI's Importance

I love how we invented the machine oracle and then decided the machine oracle must either have the politics of a California resident, a Chinese partyman or be illegal. What a great timeline

If this technology proves decisively powerful, not only is it opressive by the government and corporations that this tech is only limited to them, but also it stagnates and drowns out potential for growth and innovation, which can in turn endanger the American society as a whole. Because the reason why US has been a global superpower for so long is it has been able to have a population free enough to generate technological advantage, if you take that away, it becomes more like any other failed regime trying to hold onto power by authority alone.

It'll EVENTUALLY democratize when some nation or group makes this technology more generally available and that creates a strong enough advantage over others that the restrictive nations will have to bend the knee to not lose advantage. Or maybe it'll just stagnate forever like nuclear power and never become cheap enough to be massive at scale.
